Millennium FX
Visitors witnessed firsthand the different and detailed stages behind Doctor Who prosthetics and special effects make-up with live demonstrations from the experts at Millennium FX. Four sessions were rotated throughout the day to ensure all attendees see as many of the processes as possible.
MEET THE MONSTERS
Visitors heard about the ins and outs of life as a Doctor Who Monster. Discovered how the costumes are assembled and designed to facilitate maximum monster movement. Found out what it’s like to be a monster as Doctor Who cast described a day in the life of a Cyberman and an Ood.
CASTING PROSTHETICS
Visitors learnt about the technology behind the casting process. They heard how bespoke moulds are created – the components that are used and the different stages of the development process. They saw a range of the moulds used in the show and watched a live demonstration of the casting process, a messy but necessary stage of transforming an actor into an extra-terrestrial being!
PROSTHETIC APPLICATION
Visitors watched as Raquel Cassidy was transformed into a Ganger! They witnessed how the prosthetics are applied and how they were made from the life casting stage, through to sculpting and the moulding. They heard about the techniques used to create such a detailed effect.
PROSTHETIC COLOURING
See the final stage of the prosthetics process: the application of colour, an intricate airbrushing technique that achieves that camera finish!
